Côte d’Ivoire: U-Report and the cocoa companies in Soubre

On July 28 2021, a capacity building workshop was held for 25 members of the U-Report community in Soubré, on the rights of the child in relation to business activities. This capacity building aimed to support actions to prevent and combat child labour in cocoa-producing areas.

The young people of the U-reporters movement were made aware of the potential risks children are exposed to. They talked about the roles that girls and boys can play as well as the actions they can take to get cocoa companies in the Nawa region to take more initiatives to respect and promote rights of the child in their activities.

According to Kouassi Kouadio Evrard, 2nd Soubré U-report manager:
“This training allowed me to know and understand the realities around child labour. This forces us not to stay on the sidelines and to get more involved because it is us, the future of tomorrow.”

U-Report is a platform set up by the government of Cote d’Ivoire and UNICEF to allow young people to express themselves on issues that are close to their hearts. To date, more than three million subscribers regularly visit this platform.
