Uganda: Talk show about child labour in Moroto

In Uganda, as schools prepare to reopen in January after nearly two years of closure due to the pandemic, the education union UNATU organised a talk show on a popular radio station in Moroto. Aired on 26 November, the talk show aimed to raise awareness of the importance of education. Among other interventions, UNATU leaders and local education officers encouraged children to continue home learning and seek support from teachers before schools officially reopen. Local authorities committed to prosecute cases of child labour, physical and sexual abuse against children which occurred during the lockdown.

This talk show attracted a lot of attention among the community. It was conducted as part of the Work: No Child’s Business programme jointly implemented by UNATU, the NGOs NASCENT and Save the Children.
