Mali: Community based approach to bring children back in school

As part of the WNCB programme in Mali, the focal point of Soron (Fousseyni Traoré), organized an awareness meeting bringing together members of the association of mothers of students, members of the social dialogue space, members of SNEC as well as the community. The objective of the meeting was to focus on education of children in school.

The objective of the meeting was to focus on the education of children in school. As a result, the association of mothers of students donated chalk, notebooks, and rulers.

The community-based approach, set up by WNCB partner SNEC and other partners, is already starting to show convincing results on the ground. Two children, both 13 years old, have been withdrawn and reintegrated into school. Alou Berthé was withdrawn from school by his father for lack of a resource person to plow the field and Inzan Doumbia was withdrawn for field work. Currently they are back to school and continue to take classes. “The road is long, but we get there if we put effort,” said Fousseyni Traoré.
