Financial institutions must tackle child labour in cobalt mines

Save the Children launched a report on the role of the Dutch finance sector in improving children’s rights in cobalt artisanal and small-scale mining in the DR Congo. The report is launched in the week leading up to the Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour.

The study encourages investors to use their leverage to combat child labour and related negative impacts. In the world where the transition to a green economy is urgent, the demand for cobalt will only increase. Moving away from cobalt is not an option, but improving the circumstances is.
