Participating organisations

Lead implementing partner:

UNICEF

Implementing partner:

Save the Children & SCL Coalition (SYNADEEPCI)

Both UNICEF and Save the Children have worked for some time in the south-west of the country on child labour at the cocoa plantations. They consolidate their work in this area and expand the focus onto other key sectors and geographical areas – artisanal mining in the north-east and domestic child labour in urban areas.

Specifically, for over two decades, Save the Children and UNICEF have contributed to strengthening the national child protection system and the fight against child labour. Both organizations are in a unique influencing position as they are highly regarded nationally and internationally and are active members of the national committee to monitor actions to combat child labour.

SYNADEEPCI and the trade union confederation have a long history of supporting education sector reform and the promotion of decent work. Within the implementation of this project there is a unique opportunity to further combine forces and develop a common programming and advocacy approach which will strengthen the power to influence the government and private sector, and develop evidence of how the area-based approach can contribute to the reduction of child labour in Côte d’Ivoire.
